Jacob is a 19 year old overachiever! Jacob has CEP290, a genetic disease which caused his blindness and affects his body’s ability to code proteins. When we met Jacob, he had been in renal failure for a while and had just received a kidney transplant. He also had managed to graduate from high school with high honors despite all of his health setbacks!
Jacob loves engineering and building and is constantly trying to mold and build things. His bag of fun was full of magnetic building blocks, kinetic sand, and games that had braille components so he could “beat his family” at Uno and cards. He also loved his new Kindle Fire tablet. “Having his new tablet has allowed him to come out of his shell. He has used for everything from information searches to Facebook through the interactive speaking option.”
Jacob wants to go to college and study Engineering, and is hoping to start next year after taking a year off to heal fully. He also looks forward to going on his first date and going to the lake for the first time in 11 years. We know Jacob can do anything he sets his mind to.
Jacob’s bag of fun was sponsored by the Grainger Foundation.
